The Mistral Intergrated is a simple to operate 50W/channel MOSFET amplifier, offering 5 inputs
and a separate tape facility. A prime feature of the design is the point to point wiring and
meticulous attention paid to printed circuit board layout. This has resulted in simple but
clean signal paths, which improve both transparency and resolution. Also in an endeavour to
raise the performance of the integrated amplifier above normal expectations, custom wiring and
expensive high quality passive components are utilised. DC coupling is also employed to
alleviate the degradation's caused by capacitors in the signal path. Further enhancements
have been achieved by adopting an aluminium chassis and lid: thus reducing magnetically coupled
distortions. Star earthing, separate power supplies for the input and output stages,
together with a high current delivery, allow this amplifier to drive loudspeakers with ease.

The Mistral Phonostage is a self contained amplifier providing equalisation of the
electrical output from Moving Magnet or high output Moving Coil cartridges. The gain is
factory set for Moving Magnet, but can be configured for Moving Coil by simply soldering two
links on the PCB. The performance has been enhanced by adopting a custom multiple hybrid
active/passive power supply. The use of an over-rated mains transformer reduces power supply
modulation effects, leading to a dynamic but smoother and less aggressive sound. Other
features include custom wiring, Star earthing, dual mono construction and custom passive
components. Although Operational amplifiers are employed in this design, special care is
taken in their specification, such as: noise, gain bandwidth product and slew rate.

The Mistral Linestage is a dedicated line level preamplifier offering comprehensive input
and tape recording selection. The low output impedance endows this amplifier with the abilty
to drive relatively long or highly capacitive cables with ease. The linestage utilises a
zero feedback cascode topology, very similar in concept to the LFD Linestage LSO. Another
major consideration for this design was the power supply, which utilises a special
semi-floating configuration. As a consequence the central Earthing point has its electrical
potential actually defined by the signal earth, not the power supply. Ground modulation
effects and other power supply defects are thus minimised by this approach. Dual mono
construction, Star earthing and custom passive components all contribute to its transparency
and high resolution. Please compare this model to higher priced competition, we are confident
you will not be disappointed with its performance.

The Mistral Powerstage is a 50W/channel MOSFET power amplifier designed to drive the majority
of loudspeakers presently available. The high input sensitivity allows the use of passive
preamplifiers if so required. The circuit topology employed in this model is very similar in
concept to the LFD Powerstage PA0. Essentially, the circuit consists of an input and driver
stage running in Class A, feeding an enriched Class A/B POWER MOSFET output stage. As with
other power amplifiers the power supply is very important. In this design, Ultra low
impedance with fast recovery was realised by connecting multiple high quality capacitors in
parallel. This approach produces far better results than using a single pair of commercial
grade electrolytic capacitors of large value. DC coupling, Star Earthing, separate
input/output power supplies and custom wiring also contribute to its outstanding clarity and
resolution.

A 2 year research program has just been completed in order to select the optimum CD transport
and D/A converter technology, in terms of performance and reliability. The result of this
exhaustive research program is the Sony based Mistral CD player. An advanced Differential
Converter (A.D.C) has been employed within the Mistral CD player for improved: noise
performance, linearity and sound quality. Essentially, the D/A converter linearly
interpolates the original sampling frequency, and then requantises the signal.
A high order noise shaper removes the requantization noise before the signal is output via a
pair of differential pulse-width modulated converters. To further improve sonic performance,
separate isolated power supplies have been utilised for the digital and analogue sections of
the CD player. Extensive regulation of the power supplies also contribute to the superb
transparency and resolution of this player. Specially selected passive components and
cabling have also been used to further enhance its performance.
